The HEA is the National Agency for the EU LifeLong Learning Programme - Erasmus. Erasmus is the EU’s flagship education and training programme, emphasising student and staff mobility and European co-operation involving higher education institutions and other key players in the knowledge-based economy. It supports the creation of a European Higher Education Area (EHEA) through increased mobility. Over 2 million students have participated so far with a goal of reaching 3 million by 2012. Together with an enriched study experience, Erasmus also provides exposure to different cultures.
The other actions under the Lifelong Learning Programme are Comenius (first and second level education), Leonardo da Vinci (training) and Grundtvig (adult education). The National Agency for these actions is Léargas.
